Nice entertainment / food is "so-so"
Doug_P
, Jul 2022
1. Online ticket was easy 2. Location was easy to find 3. Parking and entry was easy 4. The outside "facility" was very nice. 5. The entertainment was nearly continuous [good] and appropriate. 6. The service was great. 7. The sunset was fantastic. The part that was disappointing was the food, particularly the MEAT.. I really hoped that, for $125 per person we would get a selection of food [meat] such as 1. Poke, 2. Salmon cooked like the Hawaiians would have cooked it 3. Coconut Shrimp or any kind of shrimp 4. Mango sauces on some meat cooked over a fire’ 5. Shish-ka-bob Instead, I got meat that was “so-so” … not as tasty as I could have made in my backyard. • There was some sauce on the chicken skin, but if you don’t eat chicken skin then the chicken was “so-so.” • The pork was … just not so groovy. For dessert, I did enjoy the coconut flavored Jell-O and the fresh pineapple.

The dancers were good, however, I would have liked different kinds of entertainment. There wasn’t much to do. The food was mediocre. I don’t eat meat, so I didn’t have many options.

Less fun than you might imagine

Luaus are all about a total experience. At Paradise Cove, the staff was indifferent, uninspired and obviously just going through the motions. Could have been an aberration that they seemed annoyed when we needed our tickets picked up, taken, directions to our seats, or drinks, but the attitude was consistent enough that I doubt it. I should mention that we were staying next door at Aulani where the "cast members" were unfailingly cheerful, competent, helpful and welcoming, so they set the bar high enough that the contrast was stark. On the positive side, I must say that the venue itself is beautiful, particularly at sunset. The entertainment was fine, similar to any other luau. There were more male dancers than I've seen at other places (except the Polynesian Cultural Center, where the show is outstanding.) The MC did her best, but I could have done without the continual encouragement to spend money at the bar. The food was typical, although the line configuration was unusual and the staff treated the crowd being herded through as though they were idiots for not understanding it (not just my party, EVERYONE.) I won't go into detail here, but signage and a slightly different arrangement of tables would have solved that problem. In short, though, we paid over $1000 for five adults and two kids not including trinkets from a disappointing gift shop, and expected wonderment and delight. Instead, we felt herded along by by a crew in Hawaiian shirts who barely tolerated their patrons. An experience not to be repeated.

Great show

The show was best part of evening. I liked having money on the cards to use toward souvenirs or drinks. Food was a bit disappointing, and having never been before we were a bit confused on where to go and what to do. Overall it was fun evening.

I loved this luau! The show was fantastic and the food was good! The food for the general tickets is more of a buffet style just so you are aware. If you want to be served and not wait in a buffet line you will have to pay for more expensive tickets. But you get one Mai Tai for free! The bus guides (we had Cousin T) are FANTASTIC. She kept everything lively and we enjoyed our time. The sunset is STUNNING.

Great views

Food was good and the show was great. But what is amazing is the sunset pictures you can take. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was due to you pay for buffet and they only give you water. You need to pay extra for non alcoholic drinks. As well they put our table close to bathrooms. And it smell so bad. That when the show started we moved to another location.

Fire Dancer

Fire dancer was the best. The buffet was disorganized, but the show was excellent. Food taste was good. Bar Tenders could only really make the featured drinks. My son asked for a Tequila Sunrise and was told they did not know how to make it. Great location. I recommend it for the theatrical show. Everyone who worked there was very nice.
